spy gear

Shortly after it was released on DVD, I received the Man from U.N.C.L.E. DVD set as a gift. I was first introduced to the show in 1983 with the Return movie and it wasn't until more recent years that I was able to really watch the show (I had seen a few episodes the summer of ’86 when I found the show on a local Chicago station by accident). Even with that, it wasn't until I received the DVD set that I was finally able to see all the episodes. Despite being dated in the sense that the show is over 40 years old, it still holds up well. One of the fun things about the show is all the cool spy gear, starting with the communicators. Even though the spy gear was clunky at times, at least compared to today's standards, it is still cool to look at.

Still if you were to compare the spy gear on the Man from U.N.C.L.E. to the spy gear on Alias there is a lot of the same general spy gear but even more fun spy gear with the advent of technology. I enjoy both shows equally the same, each one brings its own spin to the spy vs. spy game, just as each show has its own unique spy gear. Still if I had to chose a favorite piece of spy gear from each show I'd have to say the pen communicator on the Man from U.N.C.L.E. and probably the paperclip bug on Alias. Sure the paperclip bug was a bit outrageous but it was still a cool gadget.
