spy gearIt has been years since I played capture the flag at night but in late Junior High into early High School this was one of the best outdoor activities to do when it wasn’t raining outside. I grew up in a wooded suburbia where neighborhoods stretched for miles and miles. We used to play with flags placed probably a half mile away from each other, dress in all black or camo and sneak around backyards, creeks, grassy fields or whatever else was laid in front of us.

An effective Capture the flag team has runners and defenders. When playing on such a huge field runners really had their work cut out for them after grabbing the flag. To give our team the edge my friends would also incorporate spy gear like night vision goggles. We would lie in a ditch and just scan the streets and wooded clearings with spy gear. It worked perfect for spotting creeping opponents. Other spy gear included gloves, masks, utility pants, LED light and walkie-talkies. Given the opportunity, I would go play such a game tonight. Spy gear is cool no matter what age you are, at least for guys.
